Responsible pet owners license their pets, and we’ve made it easy for you. Check out all of the convenient licensing options:

Online

Purchase or renew your animal licence online using Interac or any major credit card.

Note: Pre-paid credit cards are not accepted when using the online licensing service. If you wish to pay using a pre-paid credit card, you may do so in person or by phone.

Remember to keep your e-mail confirmation as proof of payment until you receive your Animal Licence Certificate in the mail.

By phone

Call 311, or, if you’re outside of Calgary, call 403-268 -CITY (2489). VISA, MasterCard or American Express credit cards are accepted.

Note: If you wish to pay using a pre-paid credit card, please ask the 311 operator to transfer your call to Animal Licensing.

In person at two locations

Animal Services Centre
2201 Portland St. S.E.

  • Monday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Acceptable payment methods include cheque, cash, debit or credit card.

The City of Calgary Assessment, Tax and Licence customer service counter on the 3rd floor of the Municipal Complex at 800 Macleod Trail S.E.

  • Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Acceptable payment methods include cheque, cash or debit card.

Note: When you purchase an animal licence at the Municipal Complex, keep the top stamped portion of your renewal notice. This is considered proof of payment until you receive your Animal Licence Certificate in the mail.

By mail

Print the Animal Licence Application  or pick one up from the Animal Services Centre, your veterinary clinic, or The City of Calgary Assessment, Tax and Licence Customer Service Counter on the third floor of the Municipal Complex.

Mail the completed form, along with a cheque made payable to The City of Calgary to:

At a bank

Provide a bank teller or an automatic bank machine with your payment and Animal Licence invoice. Most chartered banks, trust companies, credit unions and Alberta Treasury Branches in Calgary will accept payment for animal licences.

Note: Keep the top stamped portion of the renewal notice. This is proof of payment until you receive your Animal Licence Certificate in the mail.

At a night depository

Pay by cheque or money order at 801 3 St. S.E. Please do not put cash in the night depository.

Under the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, citizens no longer need to provide a copy of a spay/neuter certificate to qualify for a reduced-licence fee. This new bylaw prohibits making false declarations regarding animal licensing and carries a $500 fine.

Replacement Tags

When you license your cat or dog, you are issued a permanent tag. If the tag is lost, you will need to purchase a replacement tag at a cost of $5. For more information on obtaining replacement cat or dog license tags click here.
